On February 15, MSP President Diane Blau shared the news that SB 634 had been signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder.聽 About this legislative accomplishment, Dr. Blau wrote, 鈥淚t reflects the strong support and active engagement that came from the MSP community. I am most appreciative of all of the efforts expended on behalf of this legislation in the interest of current and future alumni.鈥

Public Act 24 Timeline:
January 2017 鈥 Michigan鈥檚聽聽(LARA) informed individuals with a Temporary Limited License (TLLP)听that聽鈥媏xtensions would no longer be granted.鈥嬄犅
July 2017 – MSP, in cooperation with other concerned schools,聽鈥媘et and 鈥媌egan conversations with LARA that resulted in聽a further聽4鈥嬄爉onth extension聽of the TLLP deadline鈥 to聽December 31, 2017.聽
This group also proposed a legislative solution that has now resulted in the introduction of聽聽鈥媌y 鈥婼tate Senator聽Wayne Schmidt.
October 26, 2017 鈥 President Blau reaches out to MSP Community to contact State Senators in support of SB 634.聽
November 8, 2017 – SB 634聽is approved by the Senate Health Policy Committee and passed the State Senate by a vote of 37-0.聽
November 10, 2017 鈥 President Blau updates community and asks that we contact our State Representatives.
December 11, 2017 – LARA issues a final聽extension聽of 90 days for TLLP License holders whose license was set to expire on December 31, 2017.聽 The new expiration date was March 31, 2018.

January 17, 2018 鈥 MSP Vice President Diane Zalapi testifies before House Health Policy Committee in support of SB 634.
January 25, 2018 鈥 SB 634 passes in State House.聽 The Bill is returned to State Senate for final approval.聽
Jan 31, 2018 – SB 634 passes in final vote in State Senate.
Feb 7, 2018 鈥 SB 634 is presented to Governor Rick Snyder.
Feb 14, 2018 鈥 SB 634 is signed by Governor Snyder.
Feb 15, 2018 鈥 SB 634, now Public Act 24, goes into law with immediate effect.
